▶ Start solving

Every puzzle here starts by giving something away - a pawn, a piece, sometimes the queen - and ends with a winning position.

Sacrifices are hard to find because they look like mistakes. These puzzles train you to ask what happens after the capture, not just what you lose.

How to spot it

  • Look at captures and checks that give material away - then follow the forced replies.
  • A sacrifice near the enemy king is usually about opening lines.
  • Ask what the opponent's pieces are defending. Remove the defender.
