▶ Start solving

Every position comes from a game between titled players - many from the world's top grandmasters - at a moment where one decisive move won.

They are often subtle: strong players rarely leave a piece hanging, so the winning ideas are deeper. Solving them is a way to think along with the best.

How to spot it

  • Assume the defence is good. The win is usually a combination, not a blunder.
  • Look at the pieces doing nothing - activating them is often the answer.
  • Check the forcing moves even when the position looks quiet.
