October 2026 FIDE Ratings: Sindarov 4th, Erdogmus Sets a Record

The October 2026 FIDE rating list - Carlsen still on top, Olympiad stars Abdusattorov and Yakubboev climb, and 15-year-old Erdogmus breaks Wei Yi's record.

FIDE's October 2026 rating list is the first since the Olympiad in Samarkand, and the Uzbek team's gold-medal run shows. Magnus Carlsen stays a clear number one, world championship challenger Javokhir Sindarov is fourth, and Turkey's Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş has become the highest-rated 15-year-old in history.

The world top 10

# Player Country Rating
1 Magnus Carlsen Norway 2823

10 Alireza Firouzja France 2757

Carlsen, Nakamura and Firouzja did not play in Samarkand, so their ratings did not move.

The movers

  • Nodirbek Abdusattorov gained 18 points and rose from 7th to 5th, after the best performance of the whole Olympiad on top board (8½/11).
  • Javokhir Sindarov added 4 points and sits just two points behind Caruana in third - five weeks before his world title match against Gukesh.
  • Nodirbek Yakubboev, the third Uzbek gold medallist, gained 27 points, the biggest gain in the top 100, and joined the 2700 club at 2712.
  • Wei Yi climbed from 12th to 9th after his board-two gold medal for China.
  • Arjun Erigaisi lost 13 points and dropped out of the top ten.

Erdoğmuş breaks Wei Yi's record

Turkey's Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş, who turned 15 in June, gained 15 points to reach 2731 and rose from 26th to 17th in the world. That makes him the highest-rated 15-year-old ever, beating the 2721 that Wei Yi reached at the same age. He was the silver medallist on board one at the Olympiad, with 8/10.

He is also the world's top junior, ahead of world champion Gukesh (2710).

The women's list

# Player Country Rating

2 Zhu Jiner China 2559
3 Ju Wenjun China 2553

Armenia's Mariam Mkrtchyan made the biggest gain among women (+47). Alice Lee of the USA (2467) is now the top-rated girl in the world.

What the numbers mean

A rating is a prediction: the bigger the gap, the more points the stronger player is expected to score. Carlsen's 31-point lead over Nakamura is almost as big as the whole gap between second and tenth place (35 points).
